Dr. Trystyn Berg is an astronomy and physics instructor at Camosun College in Victoria, BC, Canada. Dr. Berg was formerly a Plaskett Fellow at NRC-HAA, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Milano-Bicocca working as part of the quasar group for the WEAVE survey and an ESO fellow based in Chile from 2018-2022, spending his 4th year at Universidad de Chile. During his three years at ESO, he supported both the ESPRESSO and UVES spectrographs as instrument fellow and acted as night astronomer on UT2 at Paranal. Dr. Berg’s research focuses on using quasar absorption line spectroscopy to trace the gas-phase of galaxies; from the chemical evolution of the Universe to the influence of the hosts’ super massive black holes on their gaseous reservoirs.
When Trystyn is not sitting in front of a classroom, you will likely find him (in order of decreasing likelihood): at the curling rink, on the golf course, or hiking/kayaking.
